OnPoint Community Credit Union Awards $1,000 to Innovative Services NW for the A Place for Calm Project
Vancouver, WA – Innovative Services NW is proud to announce a $1,000 grant from the OnPoint Community Credit Union to Innovative’s Early Learning and Childcare program for equipping their new Calming Room. Many of the children Innovative serves have experienced trauma in their young lives, which can result in behaviors which can be disruptive in an educational setting, both for the child and for other children in the environment. The A Place for Calm Project will provide a welcoming, quiet, calm place for a teacher to take a disruptive child for one-on-one support as the child regains their equilibrium and prepares to re-enter the classroom. This will be a vital tool as our teachers work to graduate every child from our program with the skills necessary to successfully integrate into the kindergarten classroom.
Thank you to OnPoint Community Credit Union!

Supervised Visitation Program to Close
Vancouver, WA – Innovative Services NW has been providing a safe, neutral, environment for supervised visits between non-custodial parent(s) and their child(ren) through its Supervised Visitation program for more than 15 years. Unfortunately, funding for this program, through the state, has not had an increase since 2013, even though there have been three mandated minimum wage increases during that time. Unfortunately, we are no longer able to financially support the program it is with a heavy heart that Innovative announces that this program will close as of November 5, 2018. Innovative will be working with both their clients and staff throughout this entire process, providing support and resources and all Supervised Visitation Program staff will be offered other positions with Innovative.
While the program closure is regrettable, Innovative will continue to grow programs that help the community and will be expanding their current Pediatric Therapy program and launching a new Applied Behavior Support Program for children with Autism. We have very much enjoyed the opportunity to support our supervised visitation clients over the years. The program and its clients will be missed.
If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Dena Strong at dstrong@innovativeservicesnw.org or Melissa Jaacks at mjaacks@innovativeservicesnw.org. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Community Foundation for Southwest Washington
Grants $25,000 to Innovative Services NW for the
Positive Behavior Support in Early Childhood Project
Vancouver, WA — Innovative Services NW has received a $25,000 grant from the Community Giving Fund, a charitable fund at the Community Foundation for Southwest Washington, which will support the Positive Behavior Support in Early Childhood Project. This project will provide Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) related techniques for children with behavioral challenges, whether due to developmental disabilities such as autism or to the environmental risk factors such as developmental delays, family violence, homelessness, chemical dependency, CPS involvement, incarcerated parents, or foster care.
Through a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), ABA studies the behavior of a child in order to apply interventions to bring about meaningful and positive change in the child’s behavior including academics, social skills, reading, communication, and adaptive living skills. Innovative’s new BCBA, Lori Moorehead, said, “I’ve been working with children for over 20 years and there is no other treatment available that makes as significant progress as ABA does, for the maximum potential of the child in everything they do. It also gives families the tools, support, and guidance on how to continue to teach and advocate for their child for the rest of their lives.”
Innovative’s Positive Behavior Support in Early Childhood Project will help low‐income and at-risk children in Clark County by alleviating barriers to their full functionality, helping them to succeed in reaching their full potential in an educational setting and in life.

Kaiser Permanente Grants $15,000 to Innovative Services NW for Positive Behavior Support in Early Childhood Project
Vancouver, WA — Innovative Services NW is proud to announce a $15,000 grant from Kaiser Permanente for the Positive Behavior Support in Early Childhood Project. Innovative’s Early Learning Program provides quality education and day care for children, ages 1-5 years old. Our Pediatric Therapy and Neurodevelopmental Center provides physical, speech, occupational, and specialty therapies for children, birth through age 20, and Early Intervention services for children, birth through age 3. These programs serve a variety of children with extreme behaviors, whether due to developmental disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), or to the environmental risk factors like family violence, homelessness, chemical dependency, or CPS involvement.
This grant award allows us to offer Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) related techniques in an educational setting for at-risk, low-income, behaviorally challenged children in our Early Learning program and ABA therapy for children with ASD or other developmental disabilities/delays, particularly those on Medicaid, through our Pediatric Therapy
Program. A Board Certified Behavior Analyst will launch the pilot in our Early Learning program, working with the most behaviorally challenged children and training our teaching staff in ABA supportive techniques. These techniques establish new neural pathways through intensity and repetition of desired patterns. For children with ASD, these treatment techniques are now considered to be at the forefront of therapeutic and educational interventions endorsed by the U.S. Surgeon General and the American Academy of Pediatrics. The future educational outcomes for all of these children would greatly benefit from intervening early in the life of the child with challenging behaviors using ABA therapy or ABA related techniques in the educational setting. Implementation of this program will decrease disruption in the classroom, resulting in all our children being better prepared for kindergarten and better educational outcomes for all.
Thank you to Kaiser Permanente!
